What an individual agent licence means

An individual agent is appointed by a single life insurance company and may place business only with that company. It is not a licence to survey the insurance market on your behalf, and this page should not be read as offering a choice between insurers — because there isn't one to offer.

If you would like to know which company the appointment is with, ask. It is a straightforward question and it gets a straightforward answer; it simply is not something we publish here.

This is separate from the mutual fund side

Insurance and mutual fund distribution are two different activities, under two different regulators, with two different sets of rules. The IRDAI licence above is not covered by ARN 329775, and the AMFI registration says nothing about insurance. Anything to do with insurance is a contract between you and the insurance company: the premium is paid to them, the policy is issued by them, and any claim is settled by them.

An agent is paid commission by the insurer on policies placed with them. You are entitled to know that before any conversation about insurance begins, which is why it is written here rather than left to come up later.

What this page deliberately does not contain

No products, no premium figures, no illustrations of returns or benefits, and nothing asking you to buy. Insurance product information has to come from the insurer's own documents — the prospectus, the benefit illustration, and the policy wording — and those are the documents any decision should rest on, not a page on a distributor's website.
